WBW 54 Summarized, WBW 55 Announced

North vs. SouthDavid from McDuff’s Food & Wine Trail has posted his round-up from Wine Blogging Wednesday 54. Over 50 bloggers tasted more than 85 wines from the Piedmont region of Italy. If you are looking for Nebbiolo, check out David’s write-up.

Meanwhile up in Quebec City, Rémy from The Wine Case has announced the theme of WBW 55 as “North vs. South.” Instead of a Civil War theme, his tasting will be all about tasting the same wine variety made in cooler (northerly) climates versus the same variety in warmer (southerly) climes. Sounds like a good time to go back to Riesling or find that Zin from Baja California. Whatever you choose, taste and post your notes by March 18th and let Rémy know.

Wine Blogging Wednesday #54 Announced: A Passion for Piedmont

piedmontHow great is it that we’re coming up on the 54th edition of Wine Blogging Wednesday?

It never ceases to amaze me that the little virtual wine tasting event I created over four years ago is still going and is still so popular.

February’s edition will be hosted by one of my favorite bloggers, David McDuff of McDuff’s Food & Wine Trail.

The theme is one that I’m looking forward to as well: A Passion for Piedmont.

I have to admit, I don’t know a whole lot about the wines of that region in Italy, so this will be a fun edition of WBW for me. David offers a brief run-down saying:

While there are some fine white wines made in the region – from Gavi di Gavi to Roero Arneis to Moscato d’Asti – there’s no denying that Piedmont is red wine country. The Nebbiolo-based wines of Barolo and Barbaresco may steal the thunder. But it’s the wines made from Piedmont’s other two primary varieties – Barbera and Dolcetto – that appear most often on the Piedmontese table. Less common regional specialties like Freisa, Grignolino and Brachetto add local color and help to make Piedmont one of Italy’s most diverse wine zones.

Wine for Breakfast For WBW 53

The ever twisted El Jefe, Generalísimo of Twisted Oak Winery has asked us to pair wine with breakfast foods this month for WBW 53. No, you don’t need to pour Pinot on your Cheerios but figure out how to match a dry table wine (not the easy sparkling or wine cocktails of brunch fame) with traditional breakfast fare. You know, like you are having french toast for dinner.

El Jefe has even just posted a handy guide spelling out exactly what he has in mind at El Bloggo Torcido. And you best get right on this as WBW 53 is TOMORROW (sorry again for being a bit late here). This looks like one of the most interesting, if twisted, themes yet… Join us!

WBW #52 Roundup: Put Chile On Your Radar!

Tim of Cheap Wine Ratings was this month’s host for WBW. The topic? Value Reds from Chile. It was great to see several different varietals on the list of reviewed wines, spanning from the ubiquitous cabernet sauvignon to Chile’s own pride and joy, carménère. The complete roundup can be found at Cheap Wine Ratings. Thanks for the great topic, Tim!

WBW 52 Is Today!

Apologies for the late notice but TODAY, December 10, is Wine Blogging Wednesday 52 hosted by Tim from Cheap Wine Ratings. As you might expect, Tim has asked us to find value red wines from Chile as the theme. So pick up a Chilean Cabernet, Merlot, or Carmenère, taste it today and blog about it. Make sure you send Tim a link to your post and he’ll include it in his roundup.

Speaking of roundups, Joe the 1WineDude, posted a great one of WBW 51, Baked Goods. Check it out…

Finally, the longest running logo contest will resume in the next couple days… sorry for the delay, but the top 2-3 logos from this summer will face-off to see which one is crowned the winner for official use in 2009. Will it be the defacto choice? Stay tuned…

WBW 51 is This Wednesday!

Although I didn’t see a round-up of Wine Blogging Wednesday 50 posted, Joe, the 1WineDude, has announced the theme for the 51st edition of the event as “Baked Goods.” Basically he is asking us to look for wines that are deliberately heated, or Madeirized, such as Madeira or Australia’s Rutherglen Tokays. Since these wines are not as easy to find as others, Joe is also allowing fortified wines such as Porto and Sherry into the tasting.

So pick up your selection and join us this Wednesday, November 12th and post your tasting notes. After you are done, let Joe know you have participated by posting a comment to his blog and he’ll add you to the event summary later in the month.

Where did I put that bottle of PX?

WBW #50 Announced: The Great Outdoors

Wine Blogging Wednesday #50 will be hosted by none other than the Russ Beebe, a.k.a. Winehiker. His blog Winehiker Witiculture showcases his passion for both hiking in California wine country and enjoying fine wine from California and beyond. It only makes sense that he would ask us to commune with nature a bit for this month’s event.

And so, imagine you and your significant wineau walking in the cool woods of Autumn. An amber glow lights your path, golden leaves fall around you, and as you walk, you’re working up a sizable hunger for that post-hike picnic you’ve got planned. Not to mention that sizable thirst! Which wine will you pour in the Great Outdoors?

There are also bonus points for chosing a local wine, sharing the name of the wilderness where you’d enjoy the wine, and super-duper bonus points for actually drinking it there! Be sure to read his entire announcement for all the details and on Wednesday, October 8th write about the wine you chose.

WBW #49 Roundup: I’ll Drink to That!

Wine Blogging Wednesday #49 seemed to be enjoyed by all — and not only Americans. Wine bloggers from around the world posted their choice of what to drink to end the Bush presidency. The complete roundup is on 2 Days Per Bottle.

WBW #49 Announced

Dhonig of 2 Days Per Bottle will be hosting Wine Blogging Wednesday #49. He has chosen a politically-themed topic for September’s tasting: A toast to the end of the Bush Era:

What will you drink to toast the end of the Bush era? Will it be something to honor the 43rd President, or are you just looking forward to 44? Will it be something from Texas, which Bush calls home, or Connecticut, where he was really raised? Maybe a nice French champagne, a bit of a poke in his eye? Or do you prefer Italian prosecco, since they supported the “War on Terror”? Whatever it is, get ready to lift a glass and toast the end of an era that America will never forget.

Originally, everyone was supposed to announce their choices today to coincide with the Republican National Convention. However, due to a bit of confusion we’re postping it for a week or two.

The new date is Wednesday, September 17th. Mark your calendars!

WBW #48: Back To Your Roots

To celebrate Wine Blogging Wednesday’s 4th anniversary, founder Lenn Thomspon of LENNDEVOURS hosted WBW #48 and asked everyone to look Back to Your Roots. It’s interesting to see what we all were drinking way back when. Check out his roundup to find out for yourself!
